In My Own Spectrum

Huzzah! Today is a day truly worth celebrating, I was able to snag myself my first ever job! After a few attempts and a couple of mock interviews, I can gratefully say I am employed! I work as a janitor at a local church, and from the couple of days I have been working, I have had a blast. Before getting my job, I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to get a job for a while, this is due to the job market being “Anti-Autism”. Many autistic individuals have a hard time getting jobs due to the emphasis on social norms, excellent communication and top-notch eye-contact, most of these aren’t really in my expertise, now I’m NOT saying that these skills aren’t important, these skills definitely are important for a job, but many employers put these things over actual skills required. All of this can make it a challenge for people like to get a job. I love my job, I find the variety in my work very fun.   Huzzah! It’s a cool June night, I crack open a Dr. Pepper (my favorite) and open the window letting a cool breeze in. I type on my computer after having two grueling long days. Yesterday I had my “I’m done”  party. You should know, I hailed from a smaller Class of 2025, and like many classmates, I too shared my celebration night with a friend. It was two grads for the price of one party!  Everybody came, ate tons of great food, and I saw one of my best friends get a Mustang as his graduation gift. I was so happy to see that his smile never left his face that entire night. After we lit off fireworks and enjoyed a nice bonfire, I said my goodbyes as I went to hangout with a different group of friends (We didn’t go to bed until 4am).  Fun night, right?   Huzzah! It is official, In My Own Spectrum is off the ground and ready for the world to see. To be honest, I wanted to get this done earlier than when I’m writing this (you can blame procrastination for that). But I am proud of myself for actually getting up and doing this. For those who know me, you may have been in shock when you heard I was writing a blog, but it should surprise you that I am in shock too that I’m writing this. If you asked me 6 months ago that I would be kickstarting a blog, I would’ve probably laughed or been in utter confusion that I of all people would do such a thing.
